The Pantheon

Just like the Pantheon: The pediment
proclaiming clear Marcus Agrippa’s name
“Cos. tertium”, two thousand years of fame
pillars that hold today from his intent.

Roma Eterna, Roma ever changing,
the once-and-future Rome, the Rome that grew
from dreams of civitas, Rome old and new,
the mysteries, the dark, the hope, wide-ranging.

Within, the dome makes eyes and hearts arise
in perfect balance, drawn up to the light,
the ancient world, proportions, circles, right,
so up and up forever, through the skies.

Below, the tombs, the years between, the sorrow.
Above that circled sky lies all tomorrow.
